Get on your campfire duds and warm-up your singing pipes ‘cuz Desert Dan is ready to serenade you!

This whimsical cactus crooner will serenade you as you decorate his desert landscape.  Complete with cowboy hat, bandana and an acoustic guitar, Desert Dan is bound to please city and country folk alike.

Students will learn to layer needlepoint and embroidery stitches, appliqué Ultrasuede, apply felt padding, interpret the handpainted desert sunset using darning patterns and shadow stitching.  There will be ample opportunities for students to personalize Desert Dan through stitch selection, texture enhancement and added design elements and adornments.  Students may choose to leave the foreground blank, fill in a name or add one of the desert creatures drawn and charted in the student booklet.  Creatures to choose from include a Prairie Dog, a Black Tailed Jack Rabbit and a King Snake.  Students choosing to add a creature to their foreground desert will learn to copy and transfer the line drawing to their canvases.  Once the desert sand is complete, students may add stitched scrub grass, charms and beads to complete the foreground embellishment.

Kit includes: Canvas with line drawing and hand-painted night sky, Ultrasuede, felt padding, color copy, instruction booklet and all the threads necessary to complete the project.

 Students to bring: 10” x 12” stretcher bars, needles, tacks, and normal stitching supplies.
